Oh Boy! 2nd Grade!

I recently found out that I will be teaching second grade next year! I was asked to consider the possibility and after some thinking (and a pro/con list) I decided I'd take on the challenge! The biggest benefit is I get to loop with my awesome kiddos. I just LOVE my class!

To be honest, I'm a little sad because I have spent soooooooooo much time and effort getting first grade materials together and now I need to start all over again....though I suppose I'm used to that after teaching third, fourth, and first in the past 7 years. Anyways, I still plan on posting first grade ideas on here for this year (although I may mix in some second grade stuff now too).

So this is where I ask for your help! :) I know a bunch of you have second grade blogs or know of some good ones. Point me in the right direction! I am going to need all the help I can get. And believe me, the wheels are ALREADY spinning and Pinterest is my new best friend. Thank you!!!!

  1. How fun to loop with your class! You'll love it and probably be able to use many of the same ideas with a bit of tweaking. There are a lot of great second grade blogs out there. I'd start looking at TBA, Blog Hoppin & Me & My Gangs grade level blog lists.

  2. Fun, fun, fun! I teach K-2, so I may be able to help you out. Let me know if you need anything specific. For you, it will be nice to see that all your hard work teaching your firsties has paid off! Just think about how smart they'll be next year!

  3. I looped with a few of mine this year. I am teaching a 1/2 split. It sounds as if I will either have a split again or move completely to 2nd next year! You will be pleasantly surprised at how much of your first grade stuff will still get put to great use. I tend to teach to the 2nd graders and pull my 1sties up! So come on over and visit!

  6. I have to agree...Second grade is awesome. They are still babies in the beginning and grow so much over the year. You're going to have a blast!

  13. I am in a similar boat now! I am going to be switching from Grade 1 to Grade 2 next year. Unfortunately, I am moving to a different school so I don't get to loop with my kids, like you are.

It's nerveracking and exciting at the same time!

I'm totally going to check out some of the blogs mentioned above! It's never too early to start planning, right? :)

  14. Hi Amy, I've been teaching 2nd for the past eight years and love it. We're waiting to find out our assignments for next year.

It's possible that 1 or 2 of us {{from 2nd} may be moved to first or even K because we have 2 teachers from higher grades moving to our building {student population shift}!

I'm with you-it's great to know that we have Pinterest and awesome bloggers to count on for transitions like these!
