Revising with First Graders :)

I love writing and so do my firsties! We are working on a personal narrative at the moment and today we focused on revising it. We had a discussion about the word "revise" and one student knew what it meant. I was actually surprised that anyone knew! We made a chart on the board to help us remember what to look for in our papers. Our focus questions were:

- Do your sentences make sense?
- Do you have a beginning sentence?
- Do you have an ending sentence?
- Did you add details?

Here is a poster that I made with that information. Click here to get it.

And here are some of my student's papers. They love adding in the carrots, though we are still working on expanding our vocabulary... A lot of the class used the word "fun" over and over again. :)

Stay tuned...next week I will be posting an editing poster and some samples of that! Enjoy!

  2. Cute. One year, one of my first graders was trying to remember what the "caret" was called. It was one the tip of her tongue, as she said....(with much drama and very loudly), you add that "corn" mark! :) Gotta love first graders.
