Personal Narratives

We began our personal narrative unit yesterday. I love teaching writing and I especially love teaching narrative writing. I use ideas from Writing A-Z and lessons I created for teaching it. Yesterday, I began by reading Owl Moon to the kiddos. I love this book! Here are my two favorite books to read to the kiddos as I teach the unit:

We talked about what a personal narrative is and then we made a class bubble chart to brainstorm topic ideas. Sorry, I didn't take a picture of that. Once the students knew what they were going to write about, we wrote our topics down on the top of a graphic organizer. Then we began filling out the page! I don't have a freebie of this because it's from Writing A-Z.

Next week, we are going to write our rough drafts, edit and revise them, and then start publishing it! We use special paper for that. Sometimes I get it out of books I have...sometimes I make it. Here is one I made.

When we are all done, it's Author's Chair time. I love hearing them proudly read their writing. :)
