Energy Science Experiment Day 2

We concluded our study of heat energy today by trying to prevent an ice cube from melting quickly. This was the second part to our experiment. The first part can be read here. This part was just as fun as yesterday's lesson! The kids were able to use anything in the classroom to try to keep the ice from melting. The used EVERYTHING! Haha. Take a look!

Let's see.. there were plastic bags, foil, paper, paper towels, and tissues to try to cover the ice.

Students put the ice in the shade underneath a cabinet.

Books and paper were used as fans.

And a cold water bottle was used as insulation.

Here is our final chart. One group was touching their ice almost the entire time and their ice melted in 10 minutes. Another group put water on it. Opps! Their ice melted almost immediately. We discussed why this happened and what strategies worked.

Here is the worksheet we used today!

Most of our pieces of ice melted in 10-50 minutes. After our experiment concluded, we left a piece of ice to sit on a table. It finally melted after 2 hours!
