A few weeks ago I blogged about Whole Brain Teaching and talked about all the great strategies they have. The website is http://wholebrainteaching.com/. At that point, the only one I had tried was "Teach-Ok". To view that post, go here. I am still absolutely in love with the strategy, but now, I've also tried "Class-Yes" and "Hands and Eyes" too. And I loooooooove them!
"Class-Yes" is a way to get the student's attention. It's very simple! You say "class" and they say "yes." BUT, what makes it fun is that you can say it any way you want....whisper it, say it 3 times fast, clap it, streeeetch it out... the list goes on and on. Then the kids have to say "yes" back the same way. The kids love it and I love it! And WOW, did they catch on quick!
"Hands & Eyes" is what you say to the students when you are about to say something really important. The kids put their hands together and stare at you. My kids really get into it and have bug eyes and huge smiles on their faces. I can't help but laugh. So darn cute! Of course, try not to over use it! :)
You can find many more useful strategies on their website, so check it out!
I use whole brain teaching in my room as well and {LOVE} it! The class I have this year have even taken it upon themselves to say "hands and eyes" when they feel the class is out of control! They practically get themselves back on track without me! (Some of course over do it but....) You gotta try the scoreboard! It's great....love the awww's and oh-yeah's!!
