Happy Wednesday!

We made it to hump day! I had a great rainy day with my kiddos. I am really happy with my class this year. They are soooo sweet and eager to learn. Now in our third week of school, the routine is starting to set in and we are finally done with testing (thank goodness!!). Here's what we have been studying this week:

In reading, we are on the third story of our Harcourt Trophies book. This is only my second year using this curriculum and I like it for the most part. Not thrilled about the lack of material for students above grade level, but I can improvise. One of my goals this year was to develop my own sentences for the high frequency words/sight words they provide. I wanted to make a center where students would rebuild the sentences, but I didn't want to use the ones provided in the book. We read those sentences soooo many times during the week and the kiddos are already familiar with them. Anyways, here are the sentences for the first book. If you use them, please let me know what you think! Here's a preview:

In writing, we have been working on opinion pieces. Check out my earlier post for our web and writing paper about our favorite foods. Today we focused on school. Here is our web and the writing paper we used. And here's a preview:

Lastly, in science, we have been working on weather. And what a great week for it!! Our days these past two weeks have been: sunny, partly cloudy, overcast, rainy, and stormy. Perfection!!! I'll have to remember to teach weather at the beginning of the year next year too.... I have been getting a lot of my science resources from Science A-Z. You have to pay for it, but I'm really happy with what they have to offer. Here's a link to their website: http://www.sciencea-z.com/
